Askja Super Jeep from Akureyri or Mývatn
Über die Reise

The remote area around the Askja caldera is a lunar-like landscape. From the end of June you can experience the barren interior of Iceland, where NASA trained Apollo astronauts and where the Icelandic outlaws lived in the middle ages. Subsidence in Askja’s south-east corner has formed a smaller caldera now filled by Öskjuvatn, Iceland’s second deepest lake. The crater Víti, next to Öskjuvatn, was formed in a huge explosive volcanic eruption in 1875. We will stop also at the crater lake Viti, which means “hell” in Icelandic.
